Nasal Decongestants to Get Rid of Nasal Blockage

Nasal decongestants are medications used to relieve nasal blockage. Nasal decongestants are available in different forms, like oral pills, liquid syrups, and nasal sprays. 

There can be variable reasons for nasal congestion, including sinusitis, common cold, allergy, or other infection. Nasal decongestants are helpful in relieving from nasal blockage and allow easy breathing from nostrils.

Nasal Decongestants Requirements and More

There are different nasal decongestants available for variable problems. It should not be taken without advice of a doctor as they should be avoided to use in long term for chronically affected nasal problems. Most commonly, regular cold don’t require any strong nasal decongestants. It can become a way of regenerating nasal congestion and repeated growth of infection. 

There can be more stuffing caused inside nose, which can create pressure on your head, neck and back area. This might be the reason that doctors don’t recommend the use of nasal decongestants for more than 4 continuous days.

Nasal decongestants can leave drowsy effect on the body. It is never suggested to take a decongestant without supervision of a physician. Moreover, if anyone has sugar, BP, heart problems, prostate enlargement issues; nasal decongestion medicines won’t be preferred for them. If you have strong body immunity, there will be absolutely no requirement of nasal decongestants.

Natural Decongestants for Nasal

There are many natural nasal decongestants, which can unclog the nose without giving any side effects, which are normally left by drugs. Some tried and recommended natural decongestants are given below:


  • Vitamin C sources: Vitamin C is an antioxidant and good to fight off allergies. It also fights infection by increasing immunity of body. It can help to unblock sinuses and reduces common cold symptoms.
  • Quercetin: This ingredient is extracted mainly from skin of apples and red onions. It is anti-inflammatory, histamine blocker and antioxidant.
  • Turmeric and ginger: Turmeric and ginger have anti-inflammatory properties. Swelled sinus becomes inflamed and it becomes hard to breathe properly. It is one of the most preferred nasal decongestants available in natural world.
  • Eyebright: It treats eye or nose infections initiated by sinus. Tannins are anti-inflammatory element in eye bright.
  • Butterbur: It is a ragweed family member and you should be careful to use it, if you are allergic to ragweed. Otherwise, it has anti-inflammatory and anti-histamine properties.
  • Bioflavonoids: They are extracts of citrus fruits. They can soothe sinus passages and have antioxidant properties. Apart from being a decongestant, it can serve as immunity enhancer.
  • Nettles: It is a tropical plant, which contains anti-histamine properties. It can reduce beginning of allergic reactions and prohibit blockage of sinuses.
These are some natural nasal decongestants, which people can use for getting cured from blockage. 

Apart from this, fresh fruits and vegetables can be helpful in creating better immunity for body. People suffering from nasal blockage should also take proper sleep and connect with nature on regular basis to remain fresh and lively. 

There are some exercises, which are even best as nasal decongestants and can helps to improve immunity and inflammation in sinus cavity.
Synthetic drugs are not suitable to everyone. In most of the cases, they suppress the infection and there is a chance that it raises again.  Sprays and drops also become addictive and creates other problems in body. 

It is essential to check with your doctor regarding use of decongestants to make sure that they are suitable for your present condition. Nasal decongestants can lead to adverse effect, if taken without any prescription.
